At the February International Motorcycle Show there were lots to check out in addition to the vendor booths. Dozens of tricked out motorcycles from around the region entered and showcased their bikes in the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show which was sponsored by J&P Cycles.
The competition hosts five classes: Freestyle, Modified Harley, Retro Mod, Performance Custom and Modified Street. The judging was conducted by industry veterans, the competitors themselves and those that attended the International Motorcycle Show.
Urban Custom Bikes, located in Fife, WA is co-owned by Jeremy and Jessica Ruse and Lorenzo Marr. Their shop did extremely well winning trophies and prizes in multiple categories: They won the People’s Choice Award among some very stiff competition. For the win they received a Bell Custom 500 helmet pinstriped by Skratch.
In the Modified Harley Class Urban customer Trapper OKeeffe took 1st place with his 2010 FLTRX bagger built by Urban Custom Bikes. Every inch of that bike is something to behold. The paint was done by Jones Paint and the flat black engine was done by Forever Powder Coating. Urban proudly took home a check for $1500.
For the Performance Custom category Rick Washington took 2nd place for his gleaming “Mr. Anniversary,” 2008 FLHX Street Glide. The bike is pushing over 200hp! Not bad, considering he took 2nd place to a Nitro-Harley Drag Bike.
Jeremy Ruse said “We chose to enter those 2 bikes because they showcase what our shop is doing, we can build anything from full custom show bikes to a very high horsepower competitive performance bikes. We pride ourselves on our versatility and our ability to meet all of our customer’s needs, big or small. We are truly a family operated, home town shop who cares passionately about their customer’s experience.”
Urban Custom Bikes also received the coveted Bikernet Bagger Editor’s Choice Award in which Bikernet chooses one bike as their top pick.
The Rocking K Custom Leather’s chain wallet SHO DOG Award was won by 8 year old Jacob Ruse, the son of Jeremy and Jessica Ruse, owners of Urban Custom Bikes. The SHO DOG Award was given to Jacob for his great PR work for Urban Custom Bikes. Jacob loves bikes; he can’t help it, it comes natural to him, this kid was born and has been literally raised in the motorcycle industry. Jacob is easily recognized by his cool 70’s style afro. Without a doubt he understands the motorcycle culture more than any other 8 year old that I know. Along with Jacob, his mom Jessica’s drive and passion to promote the motorcycle industry and build customers dreams is evident whenever you meet and speak with her.
All in all it was a great day for Urban and I’m sure they will be looking forward to next year’s IMS show to try and repeat.
