Run with the Wolves 2008, Part II

With so many good pictures taken by Wolf Haven’s official photographer, Julie Lawrence and our own Diana Olmstead we decided to do a second feature on this great and very successful ride. As we went to press the ride, donation, and sponsor tally went over the $33,000 mark! Thank you all for the great turnout and you’re over the top generosity. We heard lots of good comments and received many more following the ride via e-mail and phone. Here are just a few:

My girlfriend and I attended the Run with the Wolves poker run. We want to share our take of this ride with you. We have attended many events and rides over the summer but this was definitely one of our top three. The price was right -$25 and it all went to a charity cause.

The morning started off with a brisk foggy ride to the starting location at Little Creek Casino. Upon arriving we were amazed at the sight of what had to be at least 500 or more bikes. All that leather and chrome had us stoked for the day ahead! We fired up our bikes and headed to the 2nd stop. We drew our cards and were quite happy that the fog had lifted and the sun was out. We made our way to stop #3, drew our cards and hit the road again to stop #4 – Wolf Haven. There we not only drew our cards, we had the opportunity to take a tour and see the majestic wolves up close. At the final stop, The Junction, the place was packed (especially parking) and it was smoking’ hot outside. The band, The Fabulous Johnsons, rocked! They were a great choice, playing what bikers love most – classic rock.

All in all, we felt the route was safe, well orchestrated and the scenery was downright beautiful. The camaraderie amongst the several hundred bikers was fun to say the least. We thank everyone who had a hand in organizing such a large ‘old school’ style poker run. We’ll definitely be back next year!

The 2008 Run with the Wolves was by far one of the best poker runs of the season! I’m Michael Clark with the Mason County Abate chapter. I moved to western Washington from Louisiana 2 years ago and have been enjoying riding my Harley in this beautiful area ever since.

The Run with the Wolves is one of my favorite rides and has a special meaning to me. It was on this ride last year that I met my wonderful girlfriend, Cary. I had been looking forward to the ride all year and there could not have been a better day for it.

The sun was on our backs as we rode from stop to stop on the well-planned route. The stops were the perfect distance apart and the scenery on the country roads was beautiful. It was great to see the locals come out and wave at our group as we rode by. Once we had arrived at the final stop, The Junction, I was proud to look across the parking lot at all the bikes and see a lot of hard working, motorcycle riding, red-blooded Americans. My girlfriend and I had a great time at The Junction listening to the band, The Fabulous Johnsons, rocking the crowd, drinking a cold one and meeting riders from other counties as well as my own neighborhood. The designated route was obviously chosen with great thought accommodating the safe travel of 500 – 600 bikes. I can’t wait for September to come around again for the next 2009 Run with the Wolves. See you there!

– Wolf Run, September 13, 2008 – Arrived at Little Creek Casino to a parking lot full of bikes of all sizes and shapes. Registration organized to accept pre-registered riders and non-registered riders with the utmost efficiency and continental breakfast laid out great. Groups came as one or even formed there, as friends came together at the casino, with a shotgun start, which allowed ease for experienced and un-experienced to enjoy the run.

Route was laid out for maximum enjoyment and mileage to maintain the schedule. Each stop was well prepared for riders and provided ability for all that was needed, such as beverages, food or fuel. With beautiful weather, the route was majestic and was very enjoyable to view the different sections of the area.

Wolf Haven provided a great snap shot of their purpose and needs and was excellent hosts.

Ending the day we returned to Lucky Eagle Casino for a night stay, which was a fantastic time and our Thanks to the staff, of all the stops and Quick Throttle for a Great Weekend.

This year’s Run with the Wolves Poker Run was fantastic! This was our 2nd year attending the poker run. My husband and I were blown away yet again by the turnout. It was an awesome sight looking at the hundreds of bikes and riders that filled the Little Creek Casino (starting point) parking lot! The thing that we like the most is the fact that this is a bona fide RIDE, not an event full of vendor booths aiming to sell you something. The route was new (which keeps things fresh) it was incredibly beautiful, and consisted of all back roads. The maps and route markers made it easy to follow and safe.

It was obvious a great deal of planning went into this. For $25 we definitely got more than our money’s worth. We had a great time while helping out a charity. We’ll be back again next year!

In addition to these and other comments, Wolf Haven is currently conducting a rider survey to see what you liked, as well as what you didn’t like. Be sure and return your survey as soon as you can. This will help us make next year’s ride even better. We know better than to sit on our success and take riders for granted.

We plan to create a whole new route, a few new stops, more prizes, an extra hand or two with cash prizes donated by a major corporate sponsor and lots more!

Quick Throttle and the folks at Wolf Haven want you to know how much we appreciate your support so we will be keeping the ride prices the same for the 2009 event. You will have more fun for the same money!

Mark your calendars now for September 12th, 2009 when we will once again “Run with the Wolves!”
