Many motorcycle rallies are becoming glorified craft fairs. Luckily my favorite one, Run-A-Mucca, is not on that bandwagon and is still centered around motorcycles and motorcycle enthusiast culture. The event schedule and attractions included rides, poker runs, live music, good food/drinks, stunt shows, vendors, bike games, wheelie simulator, stereo contest, bike giveaway, 1/8 mile all-motorcycle drags, the burning bike and of course, a great custom bike show.
The Run-A-Mucca Custom Bike Show should be on your schedule if you like to show your ride and happen to be around the western part of the country. I have entered and/or judged many shows over the years and to date this one is the only one I have attended repeatedly for several reasons. A total of $1650 in prize money is paid out to show winners. There are seven classes: Ccruiser, Touring, Sport Bike, Rat Bike, Trike, Trailer/Sidecar and Builder. In addition to a nice plaque, the winner in each class receives $100 and the runner up receives $50. There is also an additional $100 paid for People’s Choice and $500 for Best of Show. The judging is very straightforward, fair and administered by people who know what they are doing. This year’s judges were Shannon Aikau of Counts Kustoms (and seen regularly on Counting Cars as well as Shop Talk in Quick Throttle Magazine!), Jerry Day and yours truly. (Please note that any judges who entered bikes in this show did not participate in any way in the judging of their own bikes.)
The entrants may not be big industry names but the bikes you will see at the show are impressive. Every bike I know of that has won best of show here can, will or already has won many other shows, some on a very large scale. Bikes that have graced magazine covers and centerfolds can typically be seen at this show. Whatever you are into, there is bound to be something that will catch your eye and hopefully inspire you. Detailed paint, custom leather work, intricate fabrication, you will see it all in the parking lot of the Model T for the Run-A-Mucca Custom Bike Show.
