Attention Quick Throttle readers, a new motorcycle riding gear, parts and accessories store, Iron Horse Apparel, has opened in Tenino, WA.
The owners, Jay and Sharon Doan, are very excited to have a dedicated storefront full of great motorcycle merchandise and parts. You see, for several years they sold gear at local swap meets and it was through that experience that they recognized there was a niche for affordable new and used motorcycle gear.
Their business, Iron Horse Apparel is located on a two-lane highway that is well known to local riders. On any given day individual motorcyclists or groups of bikes cruise along Bucoda Highway which runs through Tenino and out towards Centralia. Needless to say, I was not surprised to hear them say that they studied the traffic flow in front of their store for over a year before committing to that location. That information, along with the cost per square foot, and the great vibe they felt about the 2,500 square foot building is what convinced them that this was indeed the perfect spot for them.
The parking lot is rather large, 50 feet x 150 feet, and it’s level, making it a perfect place for motorcycle runs to stop at along their event route.
Iron Horse Apparel is two separate buildings that are side by side. The main apparel building is well organized and put together. Their displays are vibrant and eye catching and the walls are painted to reflect their chosen color scheme of grey, rust and black.
Their racks and shelves house an incredible amount of new and like new high-quality t-shirts, leathers, gloves, headwear, helmets, purses, novelty gift items, pins and patches and more. Most of their motorcycle t-shirts cost around ten to fifteen dollars. The store stocks a nice variety of items for men, women and kids!
The owners believe in selling affordable gear. Jay said to me, “We don’t have a $200 jacket in our store. But we do carry quality leathers!”
The building next door is filled with a nice selection of used parts, along with motorcycle manuals and off-road riding gear.
I noticed that there was a nice sized outdoor area behind the store so I asked Jay and Sharon what they plan to use that space for. They said that they plan on using that as a social area for riders. Jay is going to build a bandstand for live music, and have covered seating available. I look forward to seeing their progress on that area over the next year.
For the most part Jay and Sharon are the ones you’ll see when you stop by but they also enlist the help of Jay’s brother Rick, and their son Jeremy, from time to time. The entire family are longtime riders and you’ll feel that connection the minute you interact with them.
So, next time you are looking for affordable merchandise for yourself or someone else stop by and check out Iron Horse Apparel. They are located at 18419 Bucoda Hwy SE, Tenino, WA.
