On Saturday, April 26th Emerald City Harley-Davidson celebrated their 2nd anniversary by throwing an 80’s theme party!

IMG_2842aI honestly had forgotten how much fun the 80’s were until my friend Robin and I walked through the doors of Emerald City H-D. Suddenly our inner 80’s personas emerged. It was if we had both stepped back into time… for us that would mean life as it were in our late teens and early 20’s.

Life was so different back then; the 80’s were all about over the top abundance, bright neon colors, big hair, spandex, tight jeans, and lots of hairspray. We were young and full of energy.

If you were a “rocker” it was all about glam rock bands like Poison, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Slaughter, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Quiet Riot and Billy Idol.

If you were into pop music odds are you were listening to dance music by Madonna, Janet Jackson, Prince, The Bangles, Go-Go’s, Cindi Lauper, Rick Springfield, and Duran Duran.

If you were into R&B you were grooving to Lionel Richie, The S.O.S. Band, Kool & the Gang, Rick James, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, The Gap Band, Shalamar and  Chaka Khan.

We watched MTV when it truly was a music video show. We bought our music from local stores or record/tape clubs; there was no such thing as free downloading. We party hardy’d every Friday and Saturday night at local rock clubs or we got our dance groove on at local night clubs.  Life was awesome.

DSC_0405aEmerald City H-D truly managed to re-create that era and vibe within the dealership with their radical state-of-the art indoor venue called The Roadhouse. It consists of a large indoor entertainment stage with a built in 8000 Watt PA system, professional lighting, a large projector screen and club type seating.

Rocking the stage that night was one of the best 80’s bands in Seattle – Rewind. They played a great mix of the top music from that time period, playing songs like “Walk Like an Egyptian”, “Our Lips Are Sealed”, “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Rebel Yell”. Men, women and kids were all on the dance floor having an awesome time. I heard one young boy say to his friend “This is so cool! This is the first time I’ve ever seen a real live band play! I’m so glad my dad brought us!” I couldn’t help but smile when I thought about the fact that this moment would be etched in his memory for a lifetime and possibly become a story that he will share one day with his own kids.

DSC_0411The funniest part of their Emerald City 2nd Anniversary Party was seeing everyone wearing their best 80’s attire! I’ve known Sebastian Bularz, the GM of Emerald City H-D for many, many years but I was truly in a state of shock and hysterics when I saw him rockin’ cowboy boots, black spandex, a Steel Panther rock shirt with a leopard tie, black leather biker jacket, and a blue headband on top of his mullet hair-do!  What a guy! He totally got into the 80’s theme as did many of those who attended the party.

The ladies went all out too, wearing neon skirts and tops, spandex, fanny packs, legwarmers, big 80’s hair, colorful earrings and bracelets, and large hair bows reminiscent of Madonna.

The Jet City Rollergirls were on hand to help judge the Big Hair Contest and the Best 80’s Costume Contest. There was also an 80’s Trivia Game Show, video games for the kids to enjoy, a photo booth and lots of totally righteous raffle prizes given away to several stoked winners!

Emerald City H-D also provided a delicious free barbecue dinner and soft drinks. Beer and Mike’s Hard Lemonade were available for purchase for those who were over 21 (and provided proper ID) at the Roadhouse bar counter.

The entire Emerald City H-D staff was not only courteous and helpful they were truly having a great time.

Congrats to Sebastian and his entire staff at Emerald City H-D for 2 great years of serving local motorcycle riders as well as doing something as unique as creating a year round indoor entertainment venue. There isn’t a better backdrop than a showroom full of Harley’s to drool over while you’re dancing and listening to a great band and enjoying a cold one with friends.
