CHICAGOLAND RIDERS HELP 97.1 FM, THE DRIVE & CHICAGO CYCLE LEND SUPPORT TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS ILLINOIS
97.1 FM The Drive and Chicago Cycle recently hosted the “2008 Drive Charity Ride Series.” The three ride series took place on April 13th, May 18th, and June 22nd.
The April 13th ride began at Chicago Cycle and end at Austin’s Saloon in Libertyville, IL with catering and live music from Bullfrog. The May 18th ride began at Chicago Cycle and end at Westfield Southlake Mall in Merrillville, IN where riders were treated to live music from The Crawpuppies and delicious burritos from Chipotle. The June 22nd ride began and ended at Chicago Cycle with live entertainment, once again, from The Crawpuppies.
All of the rides concluded with a raffle to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Illinois. Riders raised money through sponsorships, or purchased raffle tickets for $20 to raise money for the charity. Raffle prizes for each of the three rides included a 3-Night all inclusive getaway for two to beautiful Allegro Nuevo Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from Apple Vacations, America’s Favorite Vacation Company; an overnight stay at the Westin River North; tickets to premier Chicagoland concerts; his and hers leather jackets from Chicago Cycle and much more! The final ride raffle included several pairs of tickets to the Drive’s 7th Birthday Concert featuring Crosby, Stills & Nash!
Over $2,000 was raised to benefit LETR for Special Olympics Illinois. Special Olympians who have the honor of becoming global messengers for Special Olympics addressed the riders and thanked them for their contributions. They have all won several medals and have been trained to speak publicly about how Special Olympics has changed their lives. The Special Olympians expressed their gratitude to the riders, Chicago Cycle, and The Drive for helping raise money to support the LETR for Special Olympics Illinois.
