Bonhams is delighted to announce the sale of the Adrian Reed Collection on Saturday 13 October at its two-day Autumn Stafford Sale. The vast single-owner collection comprises 40 machines spanning the turn of the 20th century through to the 1960s.
Highlights of the collection include a c.1930 Henderson Model KJ Streamline Four (£25,000-35,000), a c.1919 Henderston 1147cc Model Z Four (£25,000-30,000) and a 1914 Indian 7hp Power Plus (£18,000-22,000).
Adrian was born in East Yorkshire in 1947 and had two great passions in life: family and motorcycles. His love of two-wheeled machines started at an early age and he amassed an impressive and prestigious collection of bikes, accessories and parts.
His family commented: ‘He could often be found, covered in metal shavings, painstakingly creating unavailable parts on his lathe or riding with us at a rally. He was a man of ‘many words’ when it came to motorcycles and his vast knowledge will be missed by the community.’
James Stensel, Head of Bonhams Motorcycle Department UK, commented: ‘We are delighted to be offering Adrian’s incredible collection at our Autumn Stafford Sale. The collection comprises so many important British and American marques and models. A fastidious engineer, Adrian had a unique ability to sympathetically restore these machines. He would scour the globe for original accessories to bring a machine back to life or sometimes meticulously craft a component himself to the same exacting standards as the maker intended. Adrian was a familiar face to so many, keen to impart his extensive knowledge on to other likeminded enthusiasts. The sale of Adrian’s collection is a celebration of motorcycle production in its finest hour and we look forward to continuing that story at Stafford.
Further highlights of the 40-lot collection include:
