The day is finally here– Saturday, December 8, 2012. It’s the day for the Biggs Harley-Davidson 7th Annual Toy Store Invasion Ride. When I woke up at 2:36 am Saturday morning I knew I would not fall back to sleep. I tried to fall back to sleep by closing my eyes but no way was I going to sleep. I went to my computer and posted on Facebook “I’m up and getting ready to go to the Toy Store Invasion Ride at Biggs”.
I threw a leg over my Wide Glide and headed out to Biggs. It was a wet and foggy morning so I had to ride very slow but wanted to get to Biggs so bad. I arrived at Biggs around 5:00 am. I knew riders would be coming in soon so we picked up fresh donuts and Starbucks coffee. The riders starting arriving at 6:00 am.
The parking lot was full by 6:45 am. What an amazing turn-out. There were riders from all over town, a variety of motorcycle clubs and HOG Chapters. The Biggs HOG Chapter riders and volunteers were great– they helped with registration & set-up, and their Road Guards led the groups of riders to Wal-Mart.
The fun continued as we all invaded Wal-Mart’s toy section to purchase toys for the kids at Rady Children’s Hospital. We filled the Biggs 24-foot trailer with hundreds of toys.
We left Wal-Mart with a police escort – very cool! It was such a great feeling riding with hundreds of riders to Rady Children’s Hospital. The moment I pulled up to Rady’s parking lot the kids were waiting for us as if we were all Saint Nick with toys.
The Biggs H-D after-party for our 7th Annual Toy Store Invasion was something to marvel. The International Institute of Martial Arts team was in the house at Biggs. Their skilled demonstration kept the audience focused on every move they made right down to breaking bricks.
What did this day accomplish? No words can really describe the look on a kids face when you hand them a toy. I had the pleasure to go in the hospital with some of my friends and personally present toys to the kids and parents on the surgical floor of Rady’s. I had no idea that the next 40 minutes of my life would be so heart felt and I will never forget this day. Meeting the kids and their parents was very special. I felt so honored to be a part of this great event. I will ride on next year’s Toy Store Invasion Ride and will recruit more friends to join me.
December 8, 2012 is a day I will never forget!
Thank you to everyone that made this day possible.
