2018 Men of Fire Ride for Veterans

by Ryan Granath

April 27th during Laughlin River Run– We had another successful run to raise money for veterans in the tri-state area (CA, AZ and NV). This was our fifth annual poker run which started at Bullhead Fire Station Number 2 on Hwy. 95 just a few miles south of the Laughlin Bridge. Registration was between 8 and 11 am.  Setting up around 7:30 am, local military moms helped us out with registration. This event has been great with the ability to capitalize on the visitors that come out for Laughlin River Run.  We have numerous first timers as well as groups that have been doing it for years.

This year there were 348 participants, which was our highest attendance so far.  Riders got on the route in smaller staggered groups during the morning. We even had Roli Szabo, past seasons’ cast member of Counting Cars, show up with fifty riders.  Men of Fire MC NW Arizona Ch 6 rode with a group of about 85 to 90. There were also several other chapters that had traveled from Northern Virginia, Canada, Chicago Illinois, Utah, Texas, Las Vegas Nevada and four chapters from California. The route was about a ninety mile loop going to our sponsors: River Dog Grill, Lazy Harry’s, Hooch’s 95, Roadhouse 95, Topock 66 and finishing in Laughlin, Nevada at Old Town Saloon.

We had the poker hands turned in at 3 p.m. and first place prize was 4 days 3 nights stay in Laughlin at the Tropicana with VIP parking that went to Rex Hall; he had four of a kind.  Second place was a full house that was $300 to Greg Fountain. Worst hand was a 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 for $200 to Michelle Fountain.

As I worked the room I passed out Koozies to the tables and met people from out-of-state—California, Nevada & Utah. It was an outstanding event and we are donating $10,000 to the tri-state veterans via the River Fund. Over the past five years this brings our total contributions for veterans to $52,000. This event could not have been as successful if it wasn’t for our sponsors, all the participating riders, the community and the veterans.

We want to thank all our sponsors and in particular: the Harley-Davidson Dealers Assn. of Southern California ($500 donation), Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys, Tropicana Laughlin, Old Town Saloon in Laughlin, poker stop businesses, Cathie’z Leathers, Bullhead City Fire Dept., River Fund, TV 2 KLBC, US Military Vets MC, Moose Lodge Riders 1860, Red Dog Needles, Uncle Bo’s BBQ, MFMC Ch 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12, Royalty Homes/Jason Cyrus, VASS Landscaping, Steve Soffa, Boat Bar, Local 3647 & 4324, Bullhead Auto and Marine, Bikini’s, Desert Fabworks LLC, Chili’s, Eagle Motorcycles and Rentals, Flawless Auto Tint, Batteries and Bulbs, and Firehouse Coffee.

Men Of Fire NW Arizona Ch 6 would like to thank you!   You make it possible for this event to help veterans in the tri-state area.

We also look forward to your future support to help our veterans who have served our country!  We sincerely appreciate all of your generous donations.
