The Year in Pictures
The Year in Pictures They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, but they probably should have said that about a GOOD picture. When its good there’s little need for explanation or description. The work featured here, by Quick Throttle’s finest Motojournalists and Photographers like Randy Twells, Art Hall and George Childress, should hopefully speak for itself. That said, we did add a bit of context below each shot so you’ll know where it came from, and be able to find more pics and info in the Biker Galleries and in past issues online. What’s the future for Indian?
Story and photos by Ray Seidel In what is intended to be the largest gathering of Indian motorcycles west of the Mississippi, the 3rd Biennial Indian Day West was recently held in Pomona, CA. celebrating the 110th anniversary of Indian Motorcycles. Pre-1980 classic motorcycles got free entry, and on hand was The World’s Fastest Indian (which was fired up a number of times throughout the day) plus a screening of the movie. In conjunction with all this was the Flat Track World Finals. A sampling of Indians from an early camelback to the Gilroy era Chiefs was on display, including...

Sturgis in our Rear View Mirrors
View the Sturgis Photo Gallery here! Sturgis Rally is into its eight decade, with the 71st running this year.  Just the name “Sturgis”, sounds bigger than life.    Imagine any other town name, it just doesn’t work.  What the name Sturgis evokes— black & white memories of old panheads, shovels & knuckles, camping in the city park… races, mud, old school… a legend still happening.   With that, we give you… Rolling into Sturgis with several days on the road behind you, is something to remember.  I feel like I’m taking a victory lap.  No wait, it’s like breaking the tape in...

Mid-State Cycles 35th Anniversary
Story and Photos by Darlene Ferris Motorcycles have been in Bob Cleary’s blood for nearly 50 years. When Bob wasn’t up to his elbows in grime working on bikes, he could be found riding, drag racing (gas and top fuel), custom building, selling, or just talking motorcycles. The love of motorcycles became a way of life for Bob when he went into business for himself, specializing in Harley Davidson motorcycles. Thirty-five years ago, Mid-State Cycles was born. Bob Cleary opened the first shop in Paxton, IL and became a registered Illinois motorcycle dealer in 1976. After nearly four years, he...
QT Interview: Jay Leno’s Garage
By Linda Dahl, Pics By Pete Alva Most journalists have their dream interview. If I were asked “dead or alive”, mine starts with Princess Diana. But, Jay Leno has always been very high on my list. I have admired his history, his garage, his drive and his personality. I love his show and his cast (especially Kevin). When the opportunity came to scratch one off my list, I knew Princess Di was out of the question. So, when I got the chance to interview Jay Leno, I melted in my Harley boots. I ran into Ron Bermudez at the Love...
Emily’s Parade
Story & Photos by Patrick Glenn Starting at Columbine High School, the mostly dependable Colorado sunshine provided a great riding day. 1595 bikes were counted leaving Columbine, with almost 600 passengers. Other bikes joined along the way, and a group from Fairplay joined in at Platte Canyon High, so the number of participants easily matched last year’s numbers. In the absence of road construction, it was a lovely ride with the aspen trees donning their finest colors. Generous donations from participants and onlookers are distributed responsibly and effectively toward the stated goals of The “I Love U Guys” Foundation. A...
Cody ABATE Toy Run
Story & Photos by Fly In Wyoming a toy run usually means cold and nasty weather. This year the weather cooperated with us and let us have a nice day. Cody A.B.A.T.E. has been holding a toy run since the late 1980’s. No one seems to remember what year it started, I guess that’s what happens when we get older. About 30 riders and their passengers gathered in Cody to make the 50 mile ride to Lovell to start the run, adding more riders as we made the trip thru Powell and slowing down thru Byron. Bryon has to the...
Sturgis 2008
If you read last month’s Publisher’s Letter, we recapped the basics about our trip and Sturgis overall. You may have noticed that we tried to be professional, but really didn’t hide the fact that selfishly, as riders, we enjoyed the hell out of an event that continues to lose vendors, sponsors and those big “mainstream” dollars that were thrown around so freely only a few years ago. I guess you could say that Sturgis is like our national economy in microcosm – less people came to the party, and the ones who did didn’t spend as much. They cut back...
Sons of Anarchy
SPILLED BLOOD – GUNRUNNING – DRUG TRADE – CORRUPT COPS – CORPORATE DEVELOPERS. The little central northern California town of Charming has seen its better days. What was once a sleepy little town in its day has evolved into something quite different since the end of the Vietnam War. The returning vets get a different reception than those of earlier wars and create a motorcycle club, Sons of Anarchy, and form their own close “family” amongst themselves. Ride their Harleys, drink beer, chase girls and have a good time was the plan. But with the accidental (?) death of the...
Mission Accomplished
By Abel In combat, American warriors are taught to never give up, never say die and endeavor to accomplish the mission no matter what the adversity. In August of 2008, the Salute to American Veterans Rally Committee, staff and volunteers humbly followed in the footsteps of their heroes and pulled off what some said was the impossible. A freak August snowstorm swirled around the Fraser Valley and the town of Winter Park in Colorado just as the annual Veterans motorcycle rally began to take shape. “We received a large amount of pressure from local officials to cancel the event,” said...
